Meet Erin
Owner | Physician Assistant
About
I studied at University of Michigan for my BS in “Biopsychology and the Cognitive Sciences”, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine for my Masters in Health Sciences and Physician Assistant Studies” and am Board Certified from the Institute for Functional Medicine. I worked in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology for 3 years in New York and then for 5 years in Charleston with a 1-year stint in Urgent Care/Primary Care in the middle. I then moved onto hormone optimization and Functional Medicine in the spring of 2017.
Why Functional Medicine?
I became interested in Functional Medicine after my own health struggles went unresolved by multiple clinicians in the conventional space for over 13 years. I started searching for answers to how my and my colleagues’ medical training had missed something so obvious as my thyroid deficiency when I had had half my thyroid removed at 22.
What is Rising Tide to you?
Rising Tide is the opportunity to share through healthcare and community, my purpose of healing (both for myself and as a guide for others). It is the opportunity to lift others up by empowering and educating them to take care of their own bodies, minds, and spirits.
How do you take care of yourself?
I do a lot to maintain and improve my mind, body, and spirit. I try to eat well the majority of the time, exercise most days of the week, maintain a routine sleep schedule and am constantly looking for ways to improve the quality of my sleep. I have multiple practices for stress management and spiritual growth. I have pursued personal growth and healing with the guidance of several coaches and energy practitioners. Living into my truth has helped me discover and live my purpose in life and as I’ve grown into this life just keeps getting better and better!
What areas of self-care need work?
As a single mom, I sometimes don’t take the time to cook for myself when I don’t have my kids. Additionally, I’ve had multiple mold exposures and when I’m in mold my body does not tolerate exercise well so I have to back off quite a bit.
More About Erin!
I have been on a journey of self-discovery for the last 6 or 7 years. Ever since I discovered Functional Medicine and learned how to help my physical body feel better I’ve had the energy and mental capacity to explore more of my purpose, what I want from life, and my dreams. In the last couple of years particularly, before and during my divorce, it’s been an especially meaningful process. I feel like starting Rising Tide is the culmination of the metamorphosis I started in 2015 with Gene and with Functional Medicine. Not that I will stop learning and growing–quite the contrary! Now I am ‘in the flow’ with the freedom to build my own future. I am learning to play guitar and I travel a lot. I am in awe of what the future holds for me!
Your family:
I have two children, a 15-year-old daughter, and an 14-year-old son. They are constantly amazing me as they grow, as their personalities develop, and as they start to spread their wings. It’s not always easy being a parent, but it surely brings some moments of pure joy. We also have a Goldendoodle named Cotton. My parents and my brother live in the Charleston area so they are also a big part of our lives and we love to visit them at my childhood home in Michigan in the summer. Finally, I’m hoping to add “amazing life partner” to this bio soon!
